This is a very special concert. Not only is it our 2010 Gala, it is our 10th
year and the 50th concert in our series. We needed something very special to
mark this occasion.
Steinway is going to help us get a
second concert grand Steinway piano into the room. Jon Kimura Parker is going to
bring 3 of his friends. We will hear piano for 4 and 8 hands. Need we say any
more???
Internationally acclaimed concert pianist Jon
Kimura Parker is one of the top touring concert pianists performing
with most of the major orchestras in the world. In the past few years he has
performed concertos with the New York Philharmonic, The Cleveland Orchestra, The
Philadelphia Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony, the Columbus Symphony, the
Dallas Symphony, the Florida Orchestra, the Minnesota Orchestra, Atlanta,
Boston, Calgary, Denver, Ottawa, Salt Lake City, San Diego, Tampa, Tokyo,
Toronto, Rochester, Warsaw and our Houston Symphony. He is Professor of
Piano at The Shepherd School of Music at Rice University.
Patti Wolf has been with us six times. She was the pianist on the very first concert held in our recital room. Her most recent appearance was
last year with Cellist Lynn Harrell. Patti has since moved to St. Louis but is flying in to perform in this concert.
Scott Holshouser is also well known to our audience; having been here over 10 times. And when he is not being featured on our series, you will find him
on the Jones Hall stage being the principal keyboard for the Houston Symphony.
Andrew Staupe is one of the top if not the top Ph.D. piano student Rice University's Shepherd School of Music. He is studying under Jon Kimura Parker.
